It is with great sadness that the family of James Raymond Long announces his passing after a tragic accident on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 64.
He will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Lisa.
A native of Athens, Jim worked many years at Colonial Bakery delivering bread in the Etowah area. He then graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, achieved his CPA certificate and worked as an accountant. He retired from accounting to travel with his wife Lisa, and together, they developed a passion for the restoration of the historic Van Dyke home.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his parents, Raymond and Willie Nell Long; daughter, Niki Long, two granddaughters Hope Fairbanks and Caitlyn Long, and two special nieces, Jessie and Abbie Truelove. He will be fondly remembered by his “Thursday night card crew” and by the numerous craftsmen assisting with the home renovation.
While Jim requested there be no service, there will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist Jim’s family with these arrangements.
