Obituary

James “Ray” Townsend, 78, a longtime resident of Charleston, TN went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday morning, June 9th, 2014 surrounded by his family. Ray was born in Sweetwater, TN on September 27th, 1935 a son of the late James Marshall & Edith Townsend. He was a member of Council Baptist Church. Ray worked for many years in the local furniture manufacturing firms where he served as supervisor for Cookes Manufacturing and then later retiring from Jackson Manufacturing. Ray enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents Ray is also preceded in death by a twin brother Roy Townsend, another brother Bobby Townsend and a sister Shirley Williams.

Ray leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of fifty four years Pearl Lingerfelt Townsend, one daughter Renea Arnett and husband Jack, two sons Johnny Townsend and wife Cindy and Dewayne Townsend and wife Gina, his one and only grandson James Townsend and wife Suzanne, one sister Thelma Liner, two brothers Blyan Townsend (Joyce) and Ronnie Townsend. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday night, June 11th, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Bethel Baptist Tabernacle located at 3165 Buchanan Road in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Keith Watson and the Reverend Jimmy Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.

The interment will take place on Thursday morning, June 12th, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with his family and friends serving as pallbearers. Larry Stevenson, Glenn McAlister and Phil Liner will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The funeral procession will leave Bethel Baptist Tabernacle on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM.
