James Monroe Harris

July 26, 1935 — February 18, 2021

James “Jim” Harris, age 85, of Cleveland, departed this life on Thursday morning, February 18, 2021. Born on July 26, 1935 to late I.M. and Annie Lyle Harris, He was a native and lifelong resident and a longtime member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Cleveland. James was a veteran of the United States Army and owned Harris Brothers Supermarket for several years. He was an avid golfer, loved to fish, loved watching sports especially the Lady Vols, and enjoyed spending time with his family and his cat, Jackson.
Left behind to cherish James’ memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn Dixon Harris; daughter Vickie Harris; siblings, Gene Harris(Nancy), Sue Zius(Mike) and David Harris(Kelly) , a special uncle, Marvin Harris; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for James Monroe Harris will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Rusty Asble and Reverend Jim Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 12-2PM on Tuesday at the church prior to the funeral hour.
