Obituary
James “Larry” Arp, 59, a resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Friday, April 26th, 2013 in a Chattanooga hospital. Larry was born in Philadelphia, TN on January 30, 1954 a son of the late William and Pearl Arp. Larry has made Cleveland and the surrounding areas his home for the past thirty plus years. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. Larry was a graduate of Hiwassee Junior College where he was a member of the College Choir and also Tennessee Wesleyan College where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Larry was also a member of Delta Psi Omega acting fraternity and a member of the Circle K club. He was currently employed with Hiwassee Mental Health where he served on the Crisis Response Team. Larry was a former McMinn County Deputy Sherriff. He loved watching wrestling matches, singing, enjoyed both Gospel and Bluegrass music, telling jokes and doing anything that was helping others. Above all, he enjoyed being “Uncle Larry” to his nieces, nephews and many others.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his step father-in-law W.T. “Mr. Bill” Blevins.
Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of thirty four years Marie Ann Arp, one brother and his wife Doyle &Kay Arp of Philadelphia, TN, mother-in-law Marge Blevins of Cleveland, TN, brother-in-law Phil Mullins (Mary) of Ooltewah, TN, sister-in-law Marjorie Jeanette Mayo of the West Nashville area. He is also survived by his “Fur Babies” and numerous nieces, nephews and many other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at Broad Street on Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the 12:00 PM in the parlor of Broad Street United Methodist Church located at 155 Central Avenue in Cleveland, TN. A celebration of his life will follow at 12:00 noon in the main Sanctuary of Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave Hagan and Pastor Randy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Loudon, TN with Phil Lewis, Phil Bazel, Ronnie Arp, Rick Arp, Wes Harness and Bobby McBride serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Larry’s memory to either the Broad Street United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
