James L. "J. L." Brooks

James L. “J.L.” Brooks, 82, a resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home. He was born in Cleveland on July 29, 1935 a son of the late William I. & Georgia Lee (Casson) Brooks. J.L. was of the Church of God faith and a member of Georgetown Church of God. He was retired from the City of Cleveland where he worked in the city garage as a mechanic. J. L. loved to garden, work on cars and was able to fix anything or build anything he set his mind to.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister Margaret Ferguson and one brother D. R. Brooks.

J. L. Leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted with of 62 years Sue Rodgers Brooks, one daughter Phyllis Benjamin and her husband William, one son Stanley Brooks, two sisters Gladys Rogers (Charles) and Evelyn Morgan, one grandson Brandon Barefield (Stephanie), one granddaughter Jessica Brooks, three great grandchildren Jayda Barefield, Corbin Lowe and Chase Truelove, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday night, June 25, 2018 in the parlor of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road in Cleveland, TN from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service time on Tuesday.

The celebration of life service will take place on Tuesday morning, June 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend James Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
