James "Jim" Pierce, aged 81, peacefully passed away on February 2, 2024, in Chattanooga, TN, leaving behind a legacy of academic achievement, passion for the arts, and a deep love for both education and the finer things in life.

Jim's educational journey began at Bradley County High School, where he graduated in 1960. He pursued higher education at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, earning his Bachelor's Degree. His thirst for knowledge led him to the University of Connecticut, where he completed his Master's Degree. Continuing his academic pursuits, Jim engaged in Post Graduate work at the prestigious Cambridge University in England, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning.

A connoisseur of classical music, Jim was a devoted supporter of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, showcasing his appreciation for the arts. His love for animals reflected a compassionate and nurturing spirit, emphasizing the importance of kindness to all creatures.

Jim dedicated his entire career to education, beginning at the University of New Hampshire and later at New England College. He imparted knowledge at distinguished prep schools, including Pine Crest School in Florida and The John Cooper School in Woodlands, TX. Jim's passion for golf extended beyond personal enjoyment as he coached golf teams at the schools where he guided young minds.

James "Jim" is survived by his brothers, Ernest (Susan) Pierce of Ringgold, GA, and Joseph Pierce of Sewanee, TN. He leaves behind a niece, Lori (Brook) Wright of Cleveland, TN, and a nephew, Andrew (Bonnie) Pierce of Chattanooga, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Pierce (father), and Mary Pierce (mother).

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Companion Funeral and Cremation Service, Cleveland Chapel, ensuring that Jim's memory is treated with the utmost care and respect.

The family invites friends and well-wishers to join them in a memorial service on February 17th, 2024, from 3 pm to 6 pm at the University of the South, McGriff Alumni House, located at 120 Georgia Ave, Sewanee, TN. This gathering will celebrate Jim's life, achievements, and the impact he had on the lives of those around him.
