James "Jim" E. Hall, Jr., affectionately known as Pops, age 89 of Cleveland, TN went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on May 1, 1935 in Jellico, Tennessee. He was lovingly raised by his mother, Lois Marie Hall; and his grandmother, Ada Marie Stansberry, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy K. Hall, and a great nephew, John L. Sellers III. Jim was a private first class in the United States Army having served from May 5, 1958 until May 4, 1964 which included a deployment to Germany. Jim retired from Olin Chemical after 37 years of service. Jim's most admirable trait was being a loving and gentle family man. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a huge UT Vols fan and spent many Saturdays watching them play in person and on tv.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Bonnie H. Hall; along with two daughters; Laura "Beth" Johnson and husband, Tracy; and Rebecca "Becky" Cantrell and husband, Scott. In 2001, Jim became Pops to the two apples of his eye, his granddaughters, Caitlin Elizabeth Johnson and Shelby (Satterfield) Mathews. Pops and Nannie became the daily caregivers of their two granddaughters and helped along side their parents to raise them into adulthood. Ten years ago, Pops added two more grandchildren by marriage, Garrett Cantrell and Olivia (Cantrell) McCoy. Jim is also survived by sister in law, Willa Hall; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his favorite caregiver and buddy, Becky Brown, who never failed to put a smile on his face.
