James Guthrie

James Franklin Guthrie, 89, of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. James was born on October 14, 1934 in Calhoun, Tennessee to the late James Asbury Guthrie and Bernham Betty Kibble.

James was a dedicated member of Shenandoah Baptist Church, where he loved to sing with the congregation. He was a people person, it was said by many he was one of the greatest men they had ever known. James retired from TVA and also worked at Bradley Central High School. He loved to grow a garden and work on farm equipment. James never settled, he was always working whether at his job or in his yard or garage. He was in the army, 3rd Army then in the reserves for 10 years after. James was also a business man and owned several properties in which he maintained for years. He was the best part of all of his family and will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Guthrie; and his sister, Mildred Albritton.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his spouse of 13 years, Reba Guthrie; sons, Chester Guthrie, Rick (Susan) Fowler, and Randall Fowler; his daughters, Martha (Jamey) Green, and April (John) Sullivan; his brother, Darrell (Judy) Guthrie; and sister in law, Johnnie Guthrie; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 1 niece.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Shenandoah Baptist Church with Pastor David Gamble officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Flint Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
