September 20, 1936 — August 26, 2023

Etowah

James Gordon Gann of Etowah passed from this life on 8/26/23 after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 20, 1936, to William Howard and Madeline Elizabeth Gann. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William “Buddy” Gann. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years Rosella, his son and daughter in law Randy and Lea Gann, daughter and son in law Joy and Scott Buckner, grandchildren Lauren McCrossin, Jacob Gann, Sarah Gann, James Gann, Alyssa Gann, great grandchild Madison McCrossin, sister Judy Burgin and his beloved Miniature Schnauzer Regis.

James was a member of Etowah Church of Christ.

He served in the US Air Force and the Army National Guard. He retired from Shelter Insurance. He also worked at 1st National Bank.

If you ever met him, you’d never forget him. He always made people laugh, even up to the end of his life. He always went the extra mile for his customers and was loved by many. He loved music, college football, history and animals, especially dogs.

There will be no formal visitation. There will be a graveside service on 8/30/23, 9am at McMinn Memory Gardens with Mark Stephenson presiding. Pallbearers are Jacob Gann, Scott Buckner, Jeff Torbett, Tristin McCrossin, Eddie Malone and Ryder Williams.

The family wants to express their sincere appreciation to Starr Regional Rehab’s nurses, CNA’s and staff. Their care was exemplary. They treated James and us like we were their family. We will be forever grateful to them.

We also want to thank Dr. Samuel Olsen for his care of James. He went above and beyond his duty as his doctor. We will never forget and will always be grateful to him.

You are encouraged to share a memory of James and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
