James Edward "Edd" Pruett Sr.

October 20, 1941 — December 30, 2020

On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, James Edward (Edd) Pruett Sr., devoted husband and father, was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 79. Edd was born on October 20, 1941 on Sand Mountain in Alabama to J.N. (Pop) and Ruby Wilborn Pruett. He graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1960. On July 14, 1962, he married Carolyn Ann Gregg, his wife of 58 years. Together, they raised two sons, Chip and Blake. At the age of 14, Edd took his first job and never looked back. He was passionate about his work and his customers. At the time of his passing he was Senior Vice President of Sales for Momar, Inc., a career he enjoyed for 42 years. First and foremost, Edd was a Christian, dedicated to The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He served in many leadership positions at the various churches to which he belonged, primarily Calvary Baptist Church in Cleveland. Edd’s greatest joy in life was his family. In the almost 60 years he and Carolyn were together, no one can remember the two of them spending more than three days apart. She was not only his wife, but his best friend. Edd loved his sons and was always there to provide love and support. It is a tragedy that everyone is not fortunate enough to be raised by a father like Edd. One was always greeted with a smile and a kind word when meeting Edd Pruett, for he knew no other way. The number of lives Edd has touched is unknowable, but through personal experience and the accounts of others we know it was extensive. Without fail he put others before himself, always willing to help when and where there was a need. Traits such as love, kindness, generosity, and loyalty are not easily expressed in writing, but are fully understood only in the hearts of those who knew him. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Edd was preceded in death by his father, Pop, and his mother, Ruby. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, and his two children, James Edward (Chip) Pruett Jr. of Cleveland and Blake Pruett of Dayton, his sister Emmilane McLemore of Tullahoma, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan 9, 2021 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Big Springs Baptist Church at 1415 Hardwick St SE in Cleveland, TN, immediately followed by a memorial service conducted by Pastor Daniel Malone and Jeff Stinnett at 3 pm. The family requests that you donate in memory of Edd Pruett to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers if you are so inclined. You are encouraged to share a memory of Ed and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home is honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
