James Edgar "Ed" Godfrey

James Edgar "Ed" Godfrey, 82, of Cleveland, TN passed away on November 16, 2016. He was born on June 26, 1934 to the late Alvin and Mamie Godfrey. Ed was a lifelong resident of the Cleveland area and a very gifted carpenter by trade. Ed attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served in the Home Builders Sunday School Class. Ed also loved working in his garden and on his farm. In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by one brother Alvin Thomas Godfrey. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 19 years Jewell Godfrey; son Eddie Dewayne Godfrey; brothers C.W. Bruce (Blanche) of Chatsworth, GA and Winfred Godfrey (Tanya); sisters: Irene Bridges (Jim) of Rocky Face, GA, Mildred Barefield (Johnny Ray), and Lula Johnson of Apison, TN; stepchildren: John Acuff Jr. (Jean), Roy Acuff (Fay), Ella Joy Engdahl (Mark) all of Jasper, TN and Joyce Burkhalter (Mike) of South Pittsburg; grandchildren: Jason Godfrey and Erin Rymer (Bryan); great grandchildren: Ava Grace Rymer, Corbin Rymer, and Skylar Godfrey; twelve step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. In addition to these, Ed leaves behind numerous other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday November 19, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church located at 7619 S Blue Springs Rd; Cleveland, Tennessee 37311 with Pastor Steve Huff officiating and Doyle Mayton facilitating music. The family will recieve friends at the church from 11:00am until the 2:00pm service time. Interment will follow the service in the Church cemetery with Skylar, Allen, Drew, Mark, Bryan, and Roy serving as pallbearars. The Home Builders Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at the address listed above.
