James Crandall White Jr (Jim, Jimmy, Sarge), 65, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away in his home on March 18th, 2020. A future memorial may be held by The Church of Latter Day Saints in Athens and a private memorial will be held by the family in Massachusetts at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Companion Funeral Home in Athens.
Jim was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 1, 1954. He grew up in Edgewood, graduated from Edgewood HS in 1973 and joined the Army shortly thereafter. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Gallahair White.
As well as being an instructor in the Army, Jim worked as a truck driver, held several factory jobs and most recently loved working as a train yard switch driver. In retirement, Jim enjoyed carpentry and was particularly proud of a beautiful china cupboard he built for his wife Kathy. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jim was active in the National Guard, being very patriotic, loving God, country and his family and was very proud of his military service.
Jim is survived by his mother, Patricia Elizabeth (Kliskey) White; his two sisters, Jan White Carchedi (husband Tony) of Clinton, MA, and Judy (White) Whitaker (husband Dave) of Kingsville, MD; his son, James Crandall White lll and wife, Jessica Stymiest White, and grandson Zachary James Crandall White of Southbridge, MA; and many other family members and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Kathy; his father, James Crandall White, Sr; and his infant granddaughter, Hannah Grace White.
