James Calvin Spurling

James Calvin Spurling went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 2, 2021 at the age of 74. He was surrounded by his wife, daughters, and grandchildren when his heart beat for the last time. Calvin was born March 1, 1947, in Monroe County, Tennessee where he lived most of his life. He retired from a life of trucking in 1996. He attended Covenant Baptist Church, Etowah, Tennessee.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Leonard and Zula Spurling; his brother, Raymond Spurling; his mother-in-law, Nellie Lonas, and his father-in-law, Paul Lonas.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma Spurling; his daughters and son-in-laws, Lisa and Tony Crowder of Sweetwater, TN; Karen and Gary Entz of Maryville, TN; Crystal and Darrin Miller of Niota, TN; grandchildren, Dustin and wife, Tamaryn Crowder, Jessica Crowder, Ashley Yarbrough, Trey Mingee, Shane Miller and Emily Miller; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Titus Crowder; Brothers and sister-in-laws, Tony and Wanda Spurling, Steve and Ann Spurling, ML Spurling, Paul and Tammie Spurling; Sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Paul Williams.
The family will receive friends at Companion Funeral Home of Athens on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service followed at 2:00 PM on Wednesday officiated by Rev. Randy Boggess followed by burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Madisonville, Tennessee with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
