Hugh "Butch" Wallace Mulkey Jr.

November 8, 1948 — January 31, 2025

In loving memory of Hugh "Butch" Wallace Mulkey Jr., who passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2025 at the age of 76 after a brief battle with dementia.

Butch was born on November 8, 1948, in Knoxville, TN to Hugh Wallace Mulkey Sr. and Betty Lee (Sherlin) Mulkey. He was a graduate of Southern Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was employed by Dupont for 47-½ years.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth C. Mulkey, his children, Kelly (Terry) Speck of Sparta, TN, and Kevin Mulkey of Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren, Seth Speck, Andrew Mulkey, and Callie Mulkey, siblings, Sharon Basham, Jim (Sharon) Mulkey, special nieces Cara (Chris) Mulkey-Bates and Kimberly Mulkey as well as many special friends.

Sargent Mulkey proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge. During his time in the Army Butch received the following, Bronze Star (1OLC), Purple Heart (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal with V Device, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service with two bars, Combat Infantryman's and Sharpshooter badge.

Butch was a talented guitarist and enjoyed singing. He also had a passion for reading.

In addition to his parents, Butch is proceeded in death by his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Mulkey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or The National Craniofacial Association (FACES) in Butch Mulkey's honor.
