Hoyt "Glen" Fannin passed away on December 15, 2024 in Cleveland, TN surrounded by his loving wife and family. Glen was born to James and Ruth Fannin on February 22,1938.
He grew up in Cleveland and later made the decision to enlist in the Navy in 1959. He served on the USS Guadal Canal as a plank owner. He also served on the USS Ajax. He often shared memories of his time spent in the boiler room.
He later married his wife of 57 years, Sandra Kay Fritts. They were lifelong companions and celebrated each anniversary with their wedding night meal of a bologna sandwich and chips. He was of the Baptist faith. Glen and Sandra had three children, Sheila Denise Fannin (deceased), Michael (Trisha) Fannin, and Kim (Lloyd) Nesbitt. Glen was known as "Papaw" to his grandchildren Chase (Emily) Fannin, Kailyn Fannin and Morgan Pursley. They were the light of his life. He also had a very special buddy, his great-grandson, Waylon Fannin. These two were inseparable whenever they were together. Waylon will miss playing school and giving his Papaw an "F" every time, watching TV, eating popcorn out of the same bowl and playing "Don't Break the Ice.". He also had a special son by love, Jacob (Robin) Higgins III.
Glen is also survived by a special daughter-in-love, Alicia, (Dewayne) Watson. His sisters-in-law Debbie Garland and Sharon Moss will miss him. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, hosts of friends and neighbors and special family friend Wanda Minton. He loved animals. Penny, Ellie and Angel will miss him terribly.
Glen retired from Bendix after 30 years. After retirement, Glen spent many hours fishing and camping with friends, Junior and Frances Wilson and Larry and Betty Ratledge. He would often come back, like any man would, telling everyone he had caught the largest fish in the river that day. Glen also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Vols.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Fannin, Brothers Billy and Eugene Fannin, Sisters Barabara (George) Jordan, Brenda and Lisa Fannin. His father-in-law and mother-in-law, JL and Elizabeth Fritts, He was also preceded in death by special brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank (Mary) Fritts, Jerry Garland and Melvin Moss.
Visitation and Funeral will be Friday December 20, 2024, at Companion Funeral Home, Chapel at the Ridge. Visiting at 12:00 Noon with service to follow 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers: Chase Fannin, Jacob Higgins, Larry Fowler, Gerald Fowler, Daryll Evans and Kyle Roberts. Honorary Pallbearer: Grayson Chadwick.
