Homer L. "Sonny" Hayes Jr.

July 31, 1958 — August 22, 2020

Homer L. “Sonny” Hayes Jr. passed away Saturday August 22, 2020 at an Atlanta Hospital with his wife by his side. Sonny grew up in east Tennessee and has dedicated his life to serving others.

He started his career as a dispatcher, volunteer fireman, EMT, and Paramedic. His career grew and he Volunteered For Bradley County Rescue Service and eventually became Assistant Chief of the Department for several years. Sonny was the SWAT medic for the Sheriff’s department for years. Sonny was a certified diver. He has more certification and specialty classes that we can list. Sonny worked as a paramedic in the Emergency room at Rhea Medical Center. He was an instructor for CPR, ACLS, and PALS, He was the Training Captain over Education for Bradley County EMS until he became suddenly ill.

Sonny has touched, saved, and mentored more lives that we can comprehend. He has spent the past 42 years of his life devoted to the citizens of Bradley County and surrounding areas. Sonny has touched lives from a clinical aspect, an instructor point of view, as a friend, as a brother to us all, and as a loving father and husband.

He is preceded in death by (dad) Homer Hayes Sr., (mom) Ruby Hayes, and (brother) Stephen Hayes. He is survived by (sister) Deborah Goodwin, (wife) Carla A. Hayes, (daughter) Carla M & Shawn Coggins, (son) Curtis & Brittany Hayes, (son) Eddie & Martha Messer, (daughter) Sydney Hayes. Grand-children Brayleigh Coggins, Makenna Messer, and Kylen Messer. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members including his EMS and Rescue family and countless special friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Cleveland First Baptist Church located at 1275 Stuart Road in Cleveland, TN.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday morning, August 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Cleveland First Baptist Church.
