Holley Dee Belk

Holley Dee Belk (affectionately called Granny by her grandchildren) entered her heavenly home on July 1, 2024. She was born in Sunbright, TN to Mary Helen Moore Pemberton and Asburl Pemberton. She was the fourth child of fourteen children. Holley Dee was married to Charlie Belk, Sr. for 56 years until his death in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, husband, one son, John Belk, Sr., and grandchildren Ken Dowdy and Elana Dowdy Kyman.

Holley Dee is survived by two sons, Charles Belk, Jr. (Glendon); Bob Belk (Judy), both of Cleveland and one daughter, Sandra Kay Dowdy of Knoxville. Eight grandchildren, Darlene Belk Cowles (Daniel) of Memphis; Stephanie Belk Bennett (Jeff); Missy Belk Arrendale (Tommy); Jamey Belk (Cindy); Josh Belk; Sumer Belk Martin (Jeff); Johnny Belk, Jr; and Sherry Belk Fowler, all of Cleveland. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 15 great great-grandchildren. One brother, Bill Pemberton of LaGrange, GA.

She was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were in school. In later years she worked at Cleveland Chair Factory and then decided to get her hairdresser's license. She worked from home giving perms and haircuts for family and friends. Holly was an excellent seamstress, making her granddaughters' prom dresses and school clothes. She also sewed for different families in Cleveland.

Granny was the matriarch of the Belk family. She loved having her family for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve. She was famous for her fudge marble chocolate cake. She loved to work in her garden (growing and canning delicious vegetables) and beautiful flower beds.

Holley was a Godly woman and loved her church family at Hopewell Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 2:00.
