Herbert Jenkins

May 4, 1931 — December 21, 2023

Herbert Emanuel Jenkins Junior (the fourth of nine children), was born on May 4, 1931, in Falmouth Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies to Herbert Jenkins and Ruth Sanders. Herbert's academic progress began with his automotive apprenticeship at Trelawny Estates Limited, 1947, where he worked and earned the title of First-Class Tradesman.

In 1955, Herbert accepted the Third Angel's Message and joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church by way of baptism. He remained dedicated to his call of duty and served in various departments of the church before migrating to London, England, where he continued his legacy of servitude to his church and community. Herbert also continued progressing academically. He completed training requirements of British Layland Mechanics for Diesel Engines Technician. Herbert travelled to Hartford, Connecticut in 1969 and continued his Spiritual and academic journey. He was a member of Faith Seventh-Day Adventist church for many years, where he served, dutifully, until his relocation to Huntsville, Alabama. Herbert's residency in Huntsville Alabama (1983 - 2018), again demonstrated a life of service.

His establishment of an auto-repair shop (Jenkins' Auto Repairs) in Huntsville, AL, further demonstrated his deep conviction of ministry as a way of life. It was not unusual for Herbert to randomly encounter graduates of Oakwood College/University, who eagerly greeted him with expectations of "You should remember me...You kept my little car working, so I could finish school." To this he responded with a satisfying smile as if to imply, "I was only doing my duty." Herbert's Spiritual journey included his ardent love for his children: Maureen, Ray, and Eileen Jenkins. Herbert united with Martha Polius and her son, Ricardo by marriage in 1981. This union was blessed with their daughter, Precious Sebrina Jenkins. From 1955, Herbert remained a loyal member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. His various contributions (wherever located: Falmouth, Jamaica; England; Hartford, Connecticut; Huntsville, AL) included, but were not limited to his services as Missionary Secretary, Sabbath School Teacher, Missionary Volunteer Leader, Choir Member, Deacon, Elder, Pathfinder Counselor, and Pathfinder Marching Sargeant. Herbert is remembered as a kind, loving gentleman, who loved God, loved his family, and his fellowmen. He will be remembered for his repeated pleas: "Be ready to meet your maker at all times. "This world is not our home. God has good things in store for us." On the fun side - Herbert loved a game of Cricket and played the game many years in England. He loved to travel and spend time with friends.

Herbert leaves to mourn his children: Maureen, Ray, and Eileen Jenkins; his wife Martha Jenkins, and Sebrina Precious Jenkins, daughter. His grandchildren: Kelly Frederick Jr., Jason Tillman and his wife Marcetete; Shalynn Tillman; Rayna Jenkins and Herbert R. Jenkins, Jr. and step-grandson Coby Polius. His great grandchildren: Shamere Opprecht, Cazzimere Jones, Shiah Jones, and Keyessence Frederick. His siblings: Daphne Eware (Hampton, VA), Idalyn Gallimore (Jamaica), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, customers, friends, and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Herbert Jenkins Sr. and Ruth Sanders; his brothers Leonard Campbell, George Campbell, George Gallimore, and Julins Steel; and step-son, Ricardo Polius. After a long illness, Herbert peacefully went to rest at his residence in Cleveland, TN on December 9, 2023.

REST IN PEACE OUR BROTHER AND FRIEND! WE SHALL MEET, AGAIN, AT THE SOUND OF THE TRUMPET ON THAT GLORIOUS RESURRECTION MORNING!!!
