Hazel E Womac

April 20, 1932 — August 5, 2023

Hazel E. Womac, 91 of Cleveland, Tennessee went to be with her Lord at Hospice of Chattanooga on August 5th. She loved the Lord and was a member of Central Church of Christ in Cleveland. She was born in Georgetown, TN to Johnny McDowell and Lona Grissom McDowell in 1932.

She was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She and Selden were married for 72 years. They went on many adventures while he was in the Air Force, including living in Germany and later Japan. She made friends easily and embraced the people and culture wherever they lived. They settled in Cleveland in 1973.

Hazel leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters and caregivers Gayla (Brian) Bancroft and Glenda (Dale) Turner. She is also survived by her granddaughter Abby Bancroft, great granddaughter Adelaide, sister Nell (Ken) Ingram and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind several dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death her husband Selden Womac of Cleveland, two brothers J.B. McDowell of Georgetown, Charles A. McDowell of Dallas, TX, four sisters Marie Millard of Cleveland, Nannie B. Clayton Bradshaw if Georgetown, Ruby Matthews of Riceville, and Margaret Talley of Cleveland.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their gracious care and assistance. We would also like to thank the precious staff at Legacy Village.

We really appreciate her church family at Central Church of Christ who have faithfully visited and corresponded with her for many years.

She will have a private burial at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:30am at Legacy Village in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations can be given to Central Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
