Harrie H. Cate, 93, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. She was a 1945 graduate of Bradley Central High School and a member of Cleveland First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a Youth Fellowship Director.
She retired from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. After graduating high school she worked at Central Service until she was married. After raising her children she worked at Chandler’s Fabrics, Norma’s Fabrics and Cate Realty as an Affiliate Real Estate Broker before working for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
She was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, J.E. Cate Jr.; sister, Sarah E. Harris; parents, Samuel A. Harris and Carrie McDaris Harris.
Surviving are her daughter Martha Cate Bryant of Maryville; son, Joe Cate (Judy) of Cleveland; granddaughter, Jenny E. Cate (Jimmy Betbeze) of East Ridge; grandson, Joseph S. Cate of Maryville and great grandson, Kasen Cate of Cleveland.
Due to Covid-19, there will be service or visitation. The family requests that memorials be made to: Harry S. Truman Club of Bradley County, 680 Haywood Drive NW, Cleveland, TN 37312 or to the Cleveland First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for the Building Fund.
