He was employed at Charleston Hosiery Mill and was the Personnel Manager at Cleveland Enamel before embarking upon his dream of becoming a business owner. In 1978 he purchased the Phillips 66 Service Station on Spring Place Rd. which he turned into a thriving business. He later became the owner of Wofford’s Tire and Wofford’s Check Cashing Service. He also worked as a substitute rural mail carrier in Birchwood, TN.
He had a deep love for his country and community, serving in the National Guard and in the U.S. Air Force at Hunter, Biloxi and Columbus bases, during the Vietnam War, spending a year at Thule AFB in Greenland. He proudly served the Oak Grove community as the Committeeman for the Republican Party for many years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Ruritan Club for over 45 years. He also served on the Bradley County School Board for nine years. Harold was also a member of the Ocoee Lodge No. 97 of the Odd Fellows. He and Marjorie could often be found traveling to various antique shops and/or scouting out Indian mounds. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
