Grady Lewis Staggs, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Born in Waynesboro, Tennessee on July 3, 1940, he was the fourth of ten children born to Otis and Mable Staggs.
Raised in a loving, God-fearing home, Grady carried those values throughout his life, raising four children of his own and building a legacy rooted in faith, kindness, and family. His adventurous spirit took him to many different places over the years, but no matter where he lived, he remained devoted to keeping in touch with loved ones. His consistent phone calls, visits, and acts of service were a testament to his deep compassion and unwavering commitment to others.
Grady eventually settled in Meigs County, Tennessee, where he became a cherished member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Never one to sit still, he continued serving his community in countless ways - from driving a school bus for the county to mowing many yards, including those for Meigs Ministries. He also delivered food boxes to the elderly each month, steadfast in his service even while bravely battling cancer. True to his nature, Grady was mowing the lawn the day before he entered his Heavenly home.
Grady's life was a reflection of his faith and his love for others. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. As the scripture says, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of thy Lord" (Matthew 25:21).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mable Staggs; and siblings, Gracie, Hazel, Anna, George, Edith, Odie, and Ruby.
Grady is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia "Pat" Staggs of Decatur, TN; his children: Theresa (Troy) Caldwell of Decatur, TN; Sheila (Ricky) Standridge of Decatur, TN; Allen (Vicki) Staggs of Ocoee, TN; Melinda Sneed (Joe Green) of Decatur, TN; and Kathy Torres of Rome, GA. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; brothers, Harold Staggs and Dennis (Margie) Staggs, both of Lawrenceburg, TN; and a large circle of extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, TN, with Reverend Mike Rymer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
