Gordon Meis, 85, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2024, in Mc Donald, TN.
Gordon Meis was born on March 2, 1939 in Akron, MI, to Johannes Meis and Fannie Meis.
Gordon graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in 1958, and went on to work as a baker in Hillsdale, Illinois. He later started his career as a Machinist and went on to work for over 10 years in Michigan, before moving to Tennessee.
Gordon married his sweetheart, Jane Meis on September 11, 1966 in Dalton, Georgia. The couple had 2 children, Alisa Barnes, of McDonald, TN and Alan Meis, of Holland, MI.
Gordon was a man of boundless talent, love, and dedication, and he lived a life filled with passion, purpose, and an unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and faith. He was a proud founding member of his church, Southern Deaf Fellowship, where he was deeply honored to serve as Head Elder. His faith was his cornerstone, and his love for Jesus was evident in everything he did. In addition, he was an active member of the Deaf Senior Citizens of Chattanooga, where he served faithfully as treasurer for many years.
Gordon is survived by Alisa Barnes - daughter, of McDonald, TN, Alan Meis - son, of Holland, MI; Autumn DePas (Ben) - granddaughter, of Grand Rapids, MI - Isaac Plata - grandson, of McDonald, TN; Isabel Barnes - granddaughter (Donovan Holly), of Fort Myers, FL; Skylar Barnes - granddaughter, of McDonald, TN; Glenda Kokko - sister, Ruth Meis - daughter-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon is preceded in death by Jane Meis - spouse, Fannie Meis - mother, Johannes Meis - father
The service for Gordon Meis will be held on Monday, December 23 at 3:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home - The Cleveland Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00-3:00 prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Lee Cemetery in McDonald, TN.
Memorial donations can be made in Gordon's name to Southern Deaf Fellowship, 5440 McDonald Rd, McDonald, TN 37353.
