Obituary
Gordon Baker “Don” Bowker, 67, a resident of Cleveland passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 28th, 2013 in a Chattanooga hospital surrounded by his family. Don was born in Rock Hill, SC, a son of the late Gordon and Ida Lyle Bowker on November 7th, 1945. Don graduated from Charleston High School in 1964 and then entered the United States Navy. After serving his country and receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Cleveland to work as a surveyor. Don later worked for the City of Cleveland where he held many positions and retired as the Director of Public Works. Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland for most of his adult life. He also served as President of Main Street Cleveland and Calico Squares. Don enjoyed working with others and was dearly loved by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his in-laws Frank & Monita Harris.
Don leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 46 years Brenda Harris Bowker, one daughter Kristin Bowker Conley and husband Steve of Bell Buckle, TN, one son Patrick Bowker and wife Laurel of Cleveland, and one granddaughter Jennie Kathryn Conley of Bell Buckle, TN. He is also survived by two sisters Beverly Tipton (Dillard) and Linda Sainato (Nick) , one brother Lyman Bowker (Jan), and numerous other extended family members and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church located at 433 N Ocoee Street in Cleveland with Dr. Joseph R. Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in the church’s John & Gladys Tye Memorial Garden with military honor to conclude.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the 2:00 PM service time in fellowship hall.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to either The Pat Summitt Foundation at 625 Market Street Suite 1400, Knoxville, TN 37902, First Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
