Gilbert Allen Wicker, 84, a longtime resident of Decatur, TN passed away on Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023 in an Athens, TN hospital. He was born in Athens on June 9, 1938 a son of the Paul & Daisy Wicker. He was a graduate of McMinn County High School and retired from Thomas and Betts. Gilbert was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy after faithfully serving his country. Gilbert enjoyed farming, fishing & hunting, but most of all enjoyed his four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his is also preceded in death by one sister Shelia Crowder.
Gilbert leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years Bonnie Buchanan Wicker, one daughter and son-in-law Carol & J. R. Fulbright, one grandson and his wife Thomas and Meagan Fulbright, four precious great grandchildren Harper, Ella Claire, Everly and Layla, he was looking forward to meeting his 5th great grandchild Juan, one sister June Dudley, one brother Ronald Wicker (Betty), numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM in the Athens chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 400 S White Street in Athens, TN. A service celebrating his life will follow the visitation time at 4:00 PM on Friday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Joe Reed and J. R. Fulbright officiating.
The interment and committal service will follow in the Meigs Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
