George Byron Hudson, age 77, of Cleveland, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2025.
George was born on June 29, 1947 in Ooltewah, Tennessee to the late Rev. David Hudson, Sr and Juanita Hudson. He was also preceded in death by his brother Rev. David Lee Hudson, Jr; brother Joe Hudson; brother and sister-in-law Spencer and Becky Hudson; and brother-in-law Leon Norris.
After graduating from McMinn County high school, George pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Teaching from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He later obtained a Master of Arts in American History from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. His passion for learning and sports was evident throughout his career as a high school history teacher and football and basketball coach, where he dedicated over 30 years to students. In addition to his work in the public school system, George also served as an adjunct history professor at both Chattanooga State Community College and his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
An avid lover of the outdoors, George enjoyed fishing and golfing from a young age. When he wasn't outside, he could often be found challenging his mind with Scrabble or working through crossword puzzles. George was also a loyal fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta
Braves, following both teams with great enthusiasm throughout his life. He was also a published author, having written three books: Purple Haze, New Moon Murders, and Shep's Adventures.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Dana Hudson, son and daughter-in-law Chris Hudson and Kristen Davies; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Mitch Easley; stepdaughter Dana Hess; stepson and daughter-in-law Raymond and Johnnie Sue Hess; stepson and daughter-in-law Walt and Tara Hess; stepdaughter and son-in-law Berta and Eddy Rodriguez, grandchildren Ashlee Holcomb, Benjamin M Davies Hudson, Mason Easley, Caden Griffin, and Sawyer Griffin, Destiny Hess, Shayne Hess, Jase Hess, Nicole Hess, Walter Hess, Steven Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez, Hannah Rodriguez, and 15 great grandchildren. In addition he is survived by his sister Dr. Cynthia Norris, brother and sister-in-law Fletcher and Frances Hudson, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Comer Coker, brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Patti Hudson, sister-in-law Judy Hudson and sister-in-law Delphia Hudson and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on February 14th at 4:00 pm in the chapel at Companion Funeral Home located at 2412 Georgetown Rd. NW Cleveland, TN
