George Filyaw

June 4, 1951 — February 15, 2024

George Thomas Filyaw, 72, of Dayton, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at his home after a long battle with Diabetes surrounded by his loved ones. Tommy was born on June 4, 1951 in Dayton to the late Charles Filyaw and Bessie Gennoe Filyaw. He was a very kind, gentle, and quite man. Tommy had a huge heart and loved to help anyone that was in need. He was a dedicated employee at Dixie yarns for over 25 years. In his spare time Tommy enjoyed woodworking and taking his dogs for walks.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his stepson, Jeff Thurman; grandson, Lebron Maynor; his sisters, Shirley, Brenda, and Joann; and his brother, Jackie.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Sharon Filyaw; his daughters, Tam (Barry) McHone, Denita (Joe) Temple; Kelli Barker, Michelle (Don) Wilson, Nikki Burke; son, Chip Thurman; brothers, Leroy (Geraldine) Filyaw, Charles (Carmileta) Filyaw, Robert (Teresa) Filyaw; 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandkids, and 2 great great grandchildren; and his 3 furry loyal best friends; along with a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Friendship Full Gospel Church in Dayton, Tennessee.
