Obituary
George David Maupin, 54, a resident of Cleveland passed away on Friday October 14, 2011 at his home. George was born in Chattanooga TN, but has made Cleveland his home for the past 42 years.
George is a son of the late James Thomas Maupin. He is also preceded in death by grandparents Holman & Cecil Lovell and Seaton & Annie Maupin.
George was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church for the past 42 years and has faithfully played the organ for the children’s worship for the past 18 years. George was a 1976 graduate of Bradley Central High Schhool and avid bowler who also enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams the Bradley Bears and Bearettes and the Atlanta Braves. George would brighten the day of anyone he was around with his happy and upbeat personality. You could always find him humming a tune, usually a country music tune.
George is survived by his mother Johnny L. Maupin, one brother Thomas Maupin (Lesa) of Franklin, TN, one sister Betsy Gentry and her husband Bryan who George always referred to as “My Best Friend”. He is also survived by two nieces Brooke Snyder (Chris) of Dayton, TN and Julie Maupin of Franklin, TN, two nephews John Maupin (Jayne) of Cleveland, TN, and Jeffrey Maupin of Franklin, TN, a couple of special aunts Wanda Wilkey and Joyce Maupin, special cousins Lukas and Lauren Hall, and a host of other extended family members.
The funeral service will be on Sunday October 16, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Hopewell Baptist Church located at 188 Old Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland TN 37311with the Reverend Ed Eldredge and the Reverend William Walker officating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until time for the service.
Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris Snyder, Scott Hall, John Maupin, Jeffrey Maupin, Justin Wilkey, Preston Wilkey, Greg Thompson, and Lukas Hall serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Wilkey, Dennis Cofer, Shurden Collins, Doug Lance, Bob Loope, Charles Lowrance, Don McClanahan, Morris Clark, and the members of the Dickie Huff Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends on Saturday October 15, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Hopewell Baptist Church.
The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made in George’s memory to Hopewell Baptist Church.
