He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Gary was born on November 7, 1942, to Charles Edward and Mary Lou McAmis. During his young adult years, he was enlisted into military service where he served for two years.

He was U.S. Army, Special Forces, Green Beret.

He later worked for Olin Chemical where he met and married his wife, Joyce, and from where he later retired after a three decade long career. At the time, their place of employment had a rule that spouses could not be employed at the same facility.

Olin Chemical changed that rule on their behalf.

He remained married to Joyce, the love of his life, for thirty-two wonderful years until they were parted by her death on December 9, 2000.

For the entirety of those years Gary and Joyce were absolutely inseparable.

Together, always, in work, play, and unity of purpose.

He was a faithful attendee at Clingan Ridge Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN. where he spent many summers helping with Ocoee Outreach. He loved nothing more than helping those in need within the community. During his time at Clingan Ridge, he enjoyed breakfasts and other activities with the close circle of friends he found there. The relationships he gained at the church embodied both true Christianity and friendship and were a source of community and comfort for him and his family during the final days of his life.

Gary was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by his family and friends alike.

He will be greatly missed.
