Evelyn Louise Huttenhoff

July 31, 1926 — January 24, 2018

Evelyn Louise Huttenhoff, 91, of Cleveland, TN passed away on January 24, 2018. She was born on July 31, 1926 to the late Bailey and Bertha Harris. Evelyn and her husband Edward moved to Cleveland in 2006 to be close to her son, Brad, and his family. Here in Cleveland she was a member of 1st Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In her early married life Evelyn was a secretary at Boeing Corporation in Wichita, KS. Following that, she worked as a Medical Transcriptionist in Kansas for Dr. Metcalf. Eventually Evelyn had worked her way up to being an Industrial Engineer Analyst for DuPont during her tenure there beginning in 1960, when her and her family moved to Waverly, TN. Evelyn’s appointment to Industrial Engineer Analyst made her the first female supervisor to that point in the history of the company. While in Waverly, she served as a deacon in The Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Evelyn was married to Edward Francis Huttenhoff on November 15, 1947 in El Dorado, KS and was a faithful, loving and caring wife to Ed for their 67 years of marriage. After retirement, they enjoyed extensive travel together to Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Africa, China, Argentina, and Mexico. Their last trip together with Brad, their son, was on the Rocky Mountaineer Train and Via Rail, across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto in 2006. Evelyn was an exemplary mother, inspiriting her two sons to use their God given abilities to serve God and their fellow man. She taught her sons early to be responsible, and placed much value on correctly doing an assigned task and completing it well. She recognized and rewarded them when they did well, and disciplined and lovingly corrected them when they did wrong. She encouraged them to achieve their dreams, prayed diligently, and trusted God for the outcome.
She used the following poem as a teaching lesson: “If a task has once begun, never leave it TIL it’s done. Be the labor, great or small, do it well, or not at all.
In addition to her mother and father, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Edward Francis Huttenhoff; son Greg Huttenhoff; and sister Dixie Harris.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Brad Huttenhoff (Debbie); grandchildren: Valerie Capps (Robert), Stephanie Moody (Clay), and Stephen Huttenhoff; great grandchildren: Paige Moody, Parker Moody, Presley Moody, Audra Capps, Adelynn Capps, and Aiden Huttenhoff.
