Eva Hacker

October 12, 1936 — March 8, 2024

We lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many on Friday, March 8, 2024,when our cherished Eva Jean (Coleman) Hacker, 87, affectionately known as "Eva Jean" passed away in her home. Eva Jean was warmly welcomed into the arms of her husband, the love of her life and best friend, the late James (Jimmy) Hacker Jr, who passed on February 23, 2014.

While she was called home suddenly, we praise God for Eva Jean's rich life and longevity. Eva Jean passed away in the comfort of her home with her eldest son James by her side.

Eva Jean was born on October 12, 1936, to the late Willis Gamaliel Coleman and Eliza Mae (Goins) Coleman in Athens, Tennessee. She had seven brothers and two sisters. Eva grew up in a loving, warm home that gave her many wonderful memories that she enjoyed sharing. If there was anything she could do to help someone, Eva Jean was there to give of herself unconditionally.

Eva Jean married Jimmy and left Athens for Marine Corps bases in California, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Jimmy and Eva Jean had two sons, James "Jamie" in Beaufort, SC, and Richard "Richie" in San Diego, CA. Eva Jean loved caring for her children, she was devoted to them. When Jimmy got out of the Marines, the family relocated to Chattanooga and bought a home in which we lovely referred to as the little yellow house on the hill. Jimmy left the service and started a job at the Chattanooga post office and Eva Jean continued in her role as a housewife caring for her boys until they finished school.

Eva Jean was known by her many friends and family for her humor, kindness, generosity, and devotion. Once Eva was your friend, you had a friend for life. Eva managed the Hallmark store at Chattanooga's Northgate Mall in the 1990's-2000's. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul, always willing to lend a helping hand and always showed up to work with a smile. She was a faithful employee and took pride in her work, made many friends and became beloved for her skills in collecting and decorating.

She is survived by her sons, James Hacker III (Randisa), and Richard Hacker (Stacey) grandchildren Sean Hacker, Michael Hacker, Summer Deanna, Jamie Hacker, and Jaden Hacker, great granddaughter Jordyn Hacker and great grandson Jackson Hacker, sister Jackie Sue Coleman, brother, Ralph Coleman (Elizabeth), Fred Coleman (Glenda) and Danny Coleman.

You are encouraged to share a memory of Eva/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist her family with these arrangements.
