Elmer Green, Jr.

July 25, 1945 — December 31, 2023

Elmer Ernest Green, Jr. better known as Ernie Green was born in Chattanooga, TN on July 25, 1945, and entered into God's glory on December 31, 2023 in Apison TN with his family at his side. He was 78 years old. Ernie was of Christian faith and had a personal relationship with Jesus. Dad/Papaw will be truly missed.

Ernie graduated from Central High school class of 1963. He was a proud veteran that loved his country. He served in the 1st Battalion 181st Armored Field Artillery. Then served as Sergeant E5 in the Army National Guard. He owned several businesses throughout the years however he had a passion for working in logistics. At the time of retirement, he was driving for First Fleet, Inc. in the Cleveland, TN terminal in 2008. Ernie loved his family and was especially proud of his three grandsons. He loved all kinds of music and loved playing his guitar and banjo. He shared his passion for these, with not only his family and friends, but shared his talents in the church throughout the years. He had several horses throughout the years, but was especially fond of his horse, Star and love to recall the memories of him. He loved nature and all animals, especially his dogs, cats, and birds, they were truly members of his family. He especially enjoyed the daily feedings of his deer that came to see him, and he had a name for each and every one of them.

Ernie was proceeded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ethel Green, brother, Bill Green, and sister and brother-in-law Norma and Willis Kingsley. He is survived by his sons, Glenn and Gary (Lauren), grandsons, Gary II (Abbey), Alex and Colin Green, all of Apison, TN, several nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Gloria Rouse. We would like to extend our gratitude to Hearth Hospice. We would also like to thank the Silverdale Baptist Church pastors, deacons and our church family for their prayers, support, and encouragement. Also, a special thank you to Ava Honeysucker from Companion Funeral Services for her guidance, love and compassion.

Ernie's celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 10 AM at the Companion Funeral Service Chattanooga Chapel located at 6018 John Douglas Drive, Chattanooga, TN. The celebration will be conducted by Gary Green and Gary Green, II and the talent of Kaela Miller from Silverdale Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Gary Eugene Green, II, Alexander Vance Green, Colin Hedrick Green, Michael Kingsley, Wayne Lamb, Greg Longwith, and Chris Hedrick. The interment will be held at Lakewood Memory Gardens East, with full Military honors.
