Mom to some, Mamaw to most, Ella Faye Swafford Sliger went home to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ on August 28, 2024.
Faye was married to her soul mate, Jackie Sliger, for 53 years after falling in love and marrying while still in high school. She worked hard to provide for her family, proudly being an employee at Shaw for over 32 years, where she retired at the age of 81. Even though we all begged her to stay at home, Mamaw felt that hard work and her own self dependence were an absolute necessity. She was a proud member of Short Creek Baptist Church.
While words such as humble, selfless, hardworking, and compassionate all perfectly describe Mamaw Faye, the best description of her life would be that she showed everyone unconditional love, whether they felt deserving of it or not. This endless love was the same whether you were family or a stranger, but that's because Mamaw never met a stranger.
Despite having one of the largest families one could think of, chalked full of 5 children, 14 grandkids, 17 great grandkids, and 2 great great grandkids, Mamaw Faye would always make certain that everyone got a present and a hug for Christmas, whether she could afford it or not. She was the best momma that they ever knew. Whether it be a shoulder to cry on or a warm bed to sleep in, Mamaw Faye made sure that her babies had what they needed from the moment they were born to the second she drew her last breath. Even in the last few days of her life, Mamaw was more worried about trying to take care of her family than letting them take care of her.
Mamaw Faye never judged any of us, even at our lowest points in life. If you were to stumble, you could count on two things for sure in this world, Jesus and Mamaw Faye were going to be there to help you back to your feet. Mamaw never quit believing that someone could turn their life around no matter the circumstances they were in at the time. Mamaw always made sure that we knew how proud she was of each and every one of us. Mamaw loved like Jesus loves, and we all know that He is proud of the life she lived for Christ and her family. Faye Sliger truly had the sweetest soul, and she will be forever missed by each and every one of us.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Daily and Narcy Swafford, husband, Jackie Sliger, Sister Myrtle and Kenneth Minnis, brother Bob and Millie Swafford, brother Elmor and Dot Swafford, brother Ernie and Joanne Swafford, sister-in-law Karen Swafford, son-in-law Robert Martin, and grandson Ernest Grubb.
Mamaw Faye is survived by five children, Cathy and Ronnie Marler, Cindy and Johnny Grubb, Connie Martin, Curtis and Dawn Sliger, and Chris and special friend Elaine Letner.
