Elizabeth Rymer Blair

Elizabeth Rymer Blair, passed from this life on Thursday, March 29, 2018. She celebrated her 99th birthday on March 4 with family and friends at Brookedale Senior Living, where she was a resident.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, the late Frances McCamy and Albert Rymer, and brother and sisters Frank Rymer, Sue Reed, and Onie Miller. She was born in 1919 in Crandall, Georgia. Following the death of her father in 1931, her family moved to Old Fort, Tennessee, where Elizabeth grew up. After high school she attended Business College in Cleveland and worked for Rural Electric Administration (REA).
While living in Cleveland Elizabeth met Bill Richard (Dick) Blair and married him in 1943. He was sent to work in the then secret city of Oak Ridge in 1944, where they lived until 1965. Elizabeth worked for a heating and plumbing contractor in the 1950s and later was a secretary of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church. In the 1960s she worked for an Oak Ridge home builder, and when the company moved to Ohatchee, Alabama, Elizabeth and her family moved with them. Following the death of her husband in 1970, Elizabeth moved back to Cleveland and worked for Cleveland Utilities until her retirement. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Cleveland.
Mama B, as she was fondly known by friends and family, is survived by her two children, SueAnne Lewis of Oak Ridge and B.R. Blair and his wife Mary Charles of Cleveland. She is survived by two grandsons, Richard C. Blair and his wife, Michelle, of Charleston, Tennessee, and Joseph R. Blair and his wife, Corrie, of Brentwood, Tennessee, as well as six great-grandchildren, Emilie, Madelynne, and Myranda Blair of Charleston, and Macie, Halie, and Whitt Blair of Brentwood. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister Mary Daugherty of Nashville and two brothers, John Rymer of Highlands, North Carolina, and Bob Rymer of Orlando, Florida, and 21 nieces and nephews and their families. Her children wish to extend a special thanks to the staff of Brookedale Senior Living for the loving care they gave Elizabeth during her residence there.
The family will receive friends at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 3405 Peerless Rd, Cleveland, TN, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. on Monday, April 2 followed by a celebration of Elizabeth’s life at 7:00p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
