Elizabeth Ann Edwards Moore died peacefully after an illness January 28, 2025, and has gone to join her Lord.
Liz was born to Vauda Hodges Edwards and Arthur Thomas Edwards, Jr. at Memorial hospital in July of 1935. She and her two younger brothers grew up on a small family farm near Chattanooga. After graduating from City High School, she attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
In 1957, she married Andrew C., "Scrappy" Moore, Jr. They lived in Brainerd where the first of their three sons was born. Not long after moving in 1960 to Birnam Woods on Signal Mountain, they welcomed two more sons. It was in this home that Liz lived until late 2024. Liz is remembered for being a devoted mother, a loyal wife, and a faithful and dedicated volunteer at First Christian Church where she served as deacon for many years.
She began a career teaching in the HeadStart program and later kept books for and co-managed her entrepreneurial husband's businesses. Liz loved singing with the Signal Mountain Glee Club, cheering the Chattanooga Mocs football and basketball teams, and traveling with her husband across North America, Europe and to Africa. One of her favorite travel adventures with her extended family was boating to the Bahamas. Liz was a gifted hostess, and she deeply enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
Liz is predeceased by her parents, her husband Scrappy, son Scott, brother-in-law David Ferguson Moore, and former sister-in-law Polly Lamb Moore.
Survivors include sons Chris (Elizabeth) Moore of Atlanta and Tom Moore of Ringgold, Georgia, and granddaughters Catherine and Helen. She is also survived by her brothers William (Gladys) Edwards of Signal Mountain and Thomas (Beverly) Edwards, Jr. of Austin, Texas, along with 7 nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Liz's life will take place at 2pm on March 1, 2025, at First Christian Church in Chattanooga. The family will receive friends before the service from noon until 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church (www.firstchristian-chat.com ) or to the Chattanooga Humane Society (www.heschatt.org/tributes).
