Edward Franklin “Monk” McKinney Jr., 77, a resident of Birchwood, TN passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012 in a Cleveland health care facility.  Monk was a lifelong resident of Birchwood being born there. A son of the late Edward Sr. and Flora McKinney on June 17, 1934. Monk was a gifted carpenter and brick mason by trade, he also co-owned an auto body repair shop for several years.  He enjoyed being outdoors spending time hunting and fishing.  Monk was known by his family and all who knew him as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He is preceded in death by his parents Edward Sr. and Flora McKinney.  In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his wife Kathryn McKinney and brother Stanley.  He is survived by three brothers: Leon McKinney of Huntsville, AL, James Allen McKinney of Nashville, TN, and Eddie McKinney of Cleveland, TN.  Also, Monk is survived by four sons: Hank McKinney (Cathy) of Cleveland, TN, Pete McKinney (Loretta) and Roger McKinney (Melissa) of Birchwood, TN, and John McKinney (Pat) of Chattanooga, TN.  Monk is survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Three grandchildren were very special to Monk as they served as his caregivers: Crystal Cofer, Brandi King, and Cindy McKinney.  In addition to all these, Monk leaves behind a host of other extended family members and friends.
The funeral service will be held at Burdette Baptist church on Tuesday at 2:00pm located at 1910 Blythe Ferry Lane Birchwood, TN 37308.  The Family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00-8:00pm and the body will lie in state from 12:00-2:00pm on Tuesday before the service.  Reverend Raford Edwards will be officiating.  Frank Wilson, Jerry Talton, Michael Goode, Jerry Grissom, Gary Grissom, and Steve Stokes will be serving as pallbearers.  Bone Stevins will be serving as an honorary pallbearer.
