Earl J. Burger, 78, a resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Wednesday night, July 6th, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 14th, 1937 in Delano, TN a son of the late Earl & Mary Burger. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving his country. Earl was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He was retired from Bowater’s Southern Paper Corporation after forty seven years of service in the power and steam plant. Earl enjoyed playing golf, hunting and was a diehard Tennessee Vols Football fan. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters Josephine Burger, Carine McConkey and Martha Gowen and three brothers Arland “Art” Burger, Bernard “Bunt” Burger and Lemual Burger.
Earl leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of forty one years Arlene Crisp Burger, two daughters Karen Hood and husband Tim and Kim Shamblin and husband Mickey, one son Jonathan Burger and wife Hanah, seven grandchildren Tanner Shamblin (Elizabeth), Morgan Jacobi (Chris), Heath Shamblin (Kerry), Christian Hood, Mikaela Burger, Peyton Burger and Cohen Burger, three great grandchildren Titus Shamblin, Lucy Jacobi and Livie Jacobi, one sister Catherine Casteel (Sherman), numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Tony Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Calhoun First Baptist Cemetery with Tanner Shamblin, Heath Shamblin, Christian Hood, Tim Daugherty, Stan McConkey and Jamie McKonkey serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton Burger and Titus Shamblin. The interment will conclude with military honors.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlor from 1:00 PM until the 4:00 PM service time.
