Obituary
James Ronald Stegall, Sr. ("Ron") departed this life, with his wife Terry at his side, on October 10, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born on January 4, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, although he grew up in Ringgold, Georgia. He was a scholar, teacher, coach, educational administrator and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He earned his 2 year degree from West Georgia Junior College, having served 3 years in the United States Army in between his first and second years of college. He went on to have a thirty year career in public education, during which he was a teacher, football and track coach and the assistant principal at Towers High School in Decatur, Georgia and the principal of Dunwoody High School in Atlanta, Georgia during the school's initial fifteen years. During his public education career, he earned a B.S. in secondary education, Master of Education Specialists in Education degrees and ultimately a Ph.D in Educational Administration from Vanderbilt's Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
He is survived by his wife Terry Stegall and his son Ron Stegall, Jr., daughter-in-law Dr. Stephanie Stegall and his twin granddaughters Molly and Katherine Stegall.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the Vanderbilt Alumni Association; 110 21st Avenue Suite 1000; Nashville, TN 37203 in Ron's memory.
