Douglas Bischof

June 15, 1952 — January 16, 2024

Douglas Ray Bischof, 71, of Knoxville, TN passed away on January 16, 2024 due to natural causes. Doug was born on June 15, 1952 in McKinney, Texas, the son of Jerry Bischof and Doris Kirkland.

After graduating high school, Doug joined the United States Air Force in 1972, spending 404 days in Thailand, and served until honorably discharged in 1976.

In the following years, Doug worked in varying roles supporting supply chain logistics and operations management for companies in the Houston, TX area including UPS, Wuensch Sales, and Wheeler Services. Doug was also a member of the IWW and a persistent advocate for civil rights with a strong sense of justice.

Preceding Doug in death are his wife, Kathy Whitmire and parents, Doris and Jerry Bischof.

Remaining to cherish Doug's memory are his children Rita and Harley, grandchildren Emma, Olive, and Dexter, brother Keith and sisters Lisa and Quetta, as well as his many friends including Jimmy and Steve.

Doug had a passion for the arts, being especially fond of music, he shared this passion with friends and family throughout his life. He also instilled an appreciation for the arts and the principle of social justice in his own children.

Like all of us, Doug had his flaws, but he believed that we should always strive to treat others as we ourselves desire to be treated. In the event that we falter in respecting one another, Doug believed in forgiveness.

Interment will be in East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Hwy 168, Knoxville, TN 37920.

You are encouraged to share a memory of Doug and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook. Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
