Dorothy Ann Cole, 81, a resident of McMinn County passed away on Saturday morning, August 10, 2019 at River Grove Health & Rehab in Loudon, TN surrounded by her family. She was born on February 19, 1938 in Knox County a daughter of the late Smith P. Cole and Eula Hartman Cole. She moved to McMinn County in the early 1950’s where her parents owned Cole’s Country Store on Highway 68 in Niota. Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Niota for many years. She was a housewife for many years and worked in the sewing/hosiery industries in McMinn County. Dorothy loved nature, wildlife and all animals. She also enjoyed flower gardening, working in the yard and spending time with her family and attending church and church activities. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers Benny Cole, Eugene “Gene” Cole, and Thomas “Tom” Cole, infant sister at birth and former husband Clyde Strickland.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory one daughter and son in law Jayne & Pete Buchanan of North Carolina, granddaughter and grandson in law Amanda & Adam Watson of Loudon, great granddaughter whom she loved dearly Isabelle Watson also of Loudon, sister in law Juanita Cole Womac, very special and faithful friend Sarah Stemen, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews along with their families.
Dorothy loved animals and in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the McMinn County Animal Shelter or the Monroe Animal Shelter in her memory.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, August 13, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church located at 1803 County Road 250 in Niota, TN. A funeral service will follow the visitation time at 8:00 PM with the Reverend Mike Bernard officiating.
The interment will take place on Wednesday morning, August 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with Pete Buchanan, Adam Watson, Jay May, Ricky Strickland, Marvin Strickland, Eric Buchanan and Micah Buchanan serving as pallbearers.
