Dorothy Ann Clayton Hawkins

June 13, 1945 — June 14, 2019

Dorothy Ann Clayton Hawkins, 74, a resident of Cleveland went to be with her Lord one day after her birthday on June 14th, 2019.

Dorothy was born on June 13th, 1945 by the late Robert Lee Smith and Betty Inez Smith. She lost a tough fought battle of pancreatic cancer with determination until the very end. Struggling to stay with her family whom she loved very much, she passed away at her grandson’s home in Knoxville. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee and Betty Inez Smith; her brothers George Harold Smith and William Lee Smith; sisters Betty Sue Dunn and Carolyn Jeanette Morgan; also niece Gale Nolan Burns. She was preceded in death by a previous husband Wallace Clayton as well.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life her and memory her husband J.W. Hawkins, daughter Lisa Clark Rayfield (Perry); step daughters Betty James, Deloris Watson (Amos), and Deborah Gaston Armstrong (Joseph); two stepsons Jerry Hawkins (Sandy), Jeff Hawkins (Teresa), James Hawkins and Johnny Hawkins; grandchildren, Bradley Rayfield (Aimee), Matthew Rayfield and Crystal Rayfield; great-grandchildren Hayden Phelps, Landon Rayfield and Harper Phelps. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren/great-grandchildren as well as many dear friends.

She loved country music, riding in the mountains, listening to the ocean and playing in the snow. She received great happiness spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew her as Nanny. She was known as Dot, Momma, Nanny, or Sam. She fought a tough battle until the very last day of her life. She didn't want to leave her family and didn't want anyone else to go through the pain she did so she donated her body to science in hopes to help future generations. Therefore the family has decided to not have a public memorial service. We are consoled knowing she is now in heaven living a pain free life as she was in pain most of her life. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly but she will live forever in our hearts.

“Remember me as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you must
Prepare for death and follow me.”

In lieu of flowers, the family request that you make your donations to The National Pancreas Foundation.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Dorothy and/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial web page and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist the Hawkins family with these arrangements.
