Doris “Mama Jean” Cawood, 81, was called to her Heavenly home on Monday evening November 7th. She was born on April 14th, 1935 in Charleston, Tennessee to James and Edna Rogers.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” ~Proverbs 31:26-30 Jean Cawood was a truly a Proverbs 31 woman. To know her was to love her. Her smile and sweet spirit were contagious.
“Mama Jean” was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very proud of her family and loved being a great grandmother to her six babies. Jean loved holidays (especially Christmas), and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company. Mama Jean’s Sunday lunches will never be forgotten.
Jean was the beloved wife of Taylor Cawood for 63 years, devoted mother of Sherry Spangler and her husband Ron of Cleveland; Randy Cawood and his wife Sue of Abbeville, SC; loving “Mama Jean” to Brittany Cannon (Wade); Dr. Jason Spangler (Aubrie); Patrick Spangler (Jan) all of Cleveland; Allison Pettigrew (Joe) of Annapolis, MD; Paul Cawood of Charleston, SC; Sarah Cawood of Bluffton, SC; and six great grandchildren: Taylor Cannon, Carson Cannon, Abbi Reese Cannon, Paisley Spangler, Adelyn Spangler, and Hudson Spangler. She is also survived by one sister Barbara Clowers and one brother Ronald Rogers (Joy) all of Cleveland along with many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents James and Edna Rogers.
“Mama Jean” ran the race and finished the course. She was the matriarch of family and left a legacy that will live forever. This is not the end, but the beginning of her eternal life in the arms of her loving Savior.
