Obituary
Donald Ralph (Donnie) Barton of Everglades City, FL passed away suddenly on September 23, 2013 in Cleveland, TN where he had been helping his son Harmon remodel.
Donnie, a master carpenter moved from Clewiston to Everglades City in 1943 at the age of three. He truly enjoyed the Everglades, especially his hunting camp.
He built houses from New Hampshire to Florida. With each new adventure, he made numerous friends. For many years he built docks with a pile driver that he made from a lawn mower.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Judy Harmon Barton originally from Greeneville, TN, children Dona-Gene, Kathryn Nell and husband Reverend Dr. Dony Donev and Harmon David and wife Leah. The love of his life were his grandchildren Alex Donald and Alissa Rae Barton and Kariyana Donev. He is also survived by his brother David Barton and wife Helen from Pendergrass, GA, mother-in-law Kathryn Harmon and brother-in-law Dr. David Eugene Harmon, both of Morristown, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Nellie Barton and brother Bill Barton and father-in-law Eugene Harmon.
Donnie strove to be an example of Christ’s love to everyone he met and never missed an opportunity to share his testimony how by the grace of God he became a changed man. He always stressed the importance of accepting Christ before it was too late. Donnie was an ordained Baptist deacon and member of Copeland Baptist Mission, past Master of Tamiami Masonic Lodge 262 and a member of York Rite.
Donnie always put his family and others before himself. His generosity will be missed not only in Everglades City and across the country but throughout Canada, Mexico, Bulgaria, Australia, Guatemala and Costa Rica where he had numerous friends whom he thoroughly enjoyed visiting and helping with projects.
Donnie will be remembered in a memorial service at Conasauga Lodge 396 in Ocoee, TN at 2:30p.m. on Sat. Sept. 28, 2013 and at a later date in Everglades City, FL. Details will be posted at www.companionfunerals.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Florida Masonic Home or to Cup and Cross Ministries through either Everglades Community Church, Everglades City, FL or Chokoloskee Church of God, Chokoloskee, FL.
