Donald Lee Brodes

Donald L. Brodes, 92, of Cleveland, TN passed away on June 16, 2023, at a local health care facility.

Donald was born in Preston, Maryland to the late Ralph and Isabell Brodes. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Robert.

Donald grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He graduated from Preston High School in 1948, and married Betty in 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving honorably during the Korean Conflict. He earned an associate degree in electrical engineering and worked as an electrical engineer for several companies in the Fairfax, Virginia area. Following retirement, Don and Betty moved to New Bern, North Carolina. They moved to Cleveland TN in 2010.

Donald led an active life. He owned boats and enjoyed fishing in Chesapeake Bay and later in the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Lookout, NC. He was an avid hunter for game birds and deer. He enjoyed gardening. He had a well-stocked workshop where he always had a project in progress. He collected antique tools. He and Betty traveled to Europe and took trips across the United States, visiting several National Parks. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty Brodes; his brother, Jim (Audrey) Brodes of Tucson, AZ; his children, Nina (Jerry) Barrow of Cleveland TN and David (Donna) Brodes of Lynnwood WA; his grandsons, David Michael Brodes, Dustin (Gabrielle) Brodes, Paul Barrow, Jonathan Barrow, and Stephen Barrow; and his great-grandsons, Bjorn Brodes and Tristan Zimmerman.

The family thanks the staff of Legacy Village of Cleveland and Hearth Hospice for their care, guidance, and concern.

Companion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside service and internment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, July 28 at 1:30 pm with military honors.
