Donald Gordon Cross, 71, of Cleveland, TN passed away on Friday January 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Don was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada and moved with his family to Cleveland as an infant. He spent his life serving Bradley County and surrounding communities as a paramedic, firefighter and dispatcher with multiple different agencies including Cleveland-Bradley Co Rescue Squad, Bradley Co Fire Rescue, Bradley Co EMS, Hamilton Co EMS, LifeForce Air Medical, Bradley Co 911, and West Polk Co Fire and Rescue.
In his free time, Don enjoyed designing patches for different emergency services agencies, some of which are still used today. He also enjoyed visiting his favorite places in the Smokies, as well as spending time with his family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Dorothy Cross. He is survived by his beloved daughter Cristen Cross of Cleveland, TN, his brother Alan Cross (Joan), nephew Adam Cross, niece Jamie Cross (Dalton), and his great nephew Remington and great niece Kira, all of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend Cynthia Stanley (mother of Cristen), his closest friends Brett Dunn and Jessica Duckett of Cleveland, TN, and his Goddaughter Dedra West (Adam) of Knoxville, TN.
The family will be receiving friends on Friday January 31st, 2025, from 11am-2pm in the Shelli Cody Memorial Sanctuary located in Companion Funeral Home Chapel-The Ridge Chapel on Georgetown Rd, Cleveland, TN with a celebration of life service at 2pm. A graveside service at Bradley County Veterans Cemetery will immediately follow the celebration of life with Brett Dunn, Dewey Woody, Gene Gentry, Wes Davis, Jonathan Porter, Troy Maney, Jeff Stewart, Jimmy Woody, Rusty Rymer and Jonathan Miranda serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bradley County Fire Rescue and Bradley County EMS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bradley County Fire Rescue, PO Box 1167 Cleveland, TN 37364.
