Don Robert Epperson, 93, of Cleveland and Decatur, TN passed away on May 26, 2023 with
family by his side. He was a resident of this area for most of his life.
As was fitting, he passed close to Memorial Day. He always held Memorial Day in
reverence, as a veteran of the Korean War, and as someone who served with those for
which the day memorializes. As his grandchildren said, It’s a sobering thought to live
earth-side without grandparents but to know the hope of Christ and the end of the story
brings comfort after his passing and their Mamaw’s passing earlier this year. The entire
family grew up camping and playing on the banks of the Tennessee River below their
house and their children and grandchildren are following that same legacy today. The
river and its memories will forever serve as a lasting reminder of their love for each
other and the water.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Doris Epperson, who
recently passed on the first day of spring, March 20, 2023. Don always adored Doris’ passion
for flowers and zest for life. We believe they are rejoicing above as they are reunited again.
Don was also preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Kosemund, parents, Clinton
Layfayette Epperson and Effie Beard Epperson, several brothers and sisters: Weyman Epperson,
Wilma Gary, Elwanda Epperson, Irnelda Wattenbarger, Voleta Chapman, Jack Epperson, Kyrene
Epperson, Betty Davis, Sue Falasco, Oleta Kibble, and Julian Epperson.
He leaves behind one sister, Norma Stephenson (Eli Stephenson) also his sons and daughters:
Darlene Williamson (Bill), David Epperson, Daniel Epperson, and Dennis Epperson (Rhee) along
with grandchildren: John Williamson (Christy), Mike Williamson (Bentley), Rachel Kidwell
(Jedidiah), Jackie Epperson, Matthew Epperson, Levi Epperson, Shana Pattarozzi (Brian), Clint
Epperson (Suzanna), Brooke Allison (Blake), Jenny Lawson (Dustin), and Jonathan Kosemund.
He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 th at Philippi Baptist
Church on Harrison Pike. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 4:30 with Pastor Jeff Baggett
officiating followed by burial at Beaty Cemetery.
