Deborah Josie Brown Hankins, 71, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023, in Chattanooga, TN. Born on February 15, 1952, in Falling Water, TN, Deborah's life was a testament to the love and care she extended to everyone around her.
Preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Fostenia Brown, her brothers Doug and Wayne Brown, her beloved husband Lawrence, and her grandson Colton Mahan. Deborah's legacy is carried forward by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Mahan (George) of Hixson, TN, and Megan Brown (Randy) of Bakewell; her son by love, Vincent Brown (Laura) of Hixson, TN; her sister Gladys Moore (Jim) of Flat Top Mt., Polly McGlockin (AB) of Hixson, TN, Vera Fletcher of Ringgold, GA, Glenda Brown of Hixson, TN; and her brother Kenneth Brown of Soddy Daisy, TN.
Deborah's life was further enriched by her grandchildren, Ashton Farmer (Daryl) of Rossville, GA, Sara Mahan of Fort Payne, AL, Whitney Presley of Hixson, TN, Ryliegh and Adalynn Presley of Chattanooga, TN, and Breanna Brown of Bakewell. Her four great-grandchildren, Josie Mahan of Fort Payne, AL, Emalee Farmer, Hazel Farmer, Savannah Farmer of Rossville, GA, and two step-grandchildren, Ely Farmer and Leila Farmer of Rossville, GA, also brought her immense joy.
Deborah's professional life was spent in service to the children and families of Falling Water Elementary School, where she worked in the cafeteria. Her presence was a comforting fixture, and her smile was a bright spot in the days of countless students and staff.
A woman of Baptist faith, Deborah's interests were simple yet profound. She loved spending time with her family, scratching lottery tickets, and was a familiar, friendly face to the neighborhood children. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her, but her memory will continue to inspire love and kindness in the hearts of her family and friends. Deborah Josie Brown Hankins will be remembered as a beacon of light in her community, a devoted family woman, and a friend to all.
The family will be holding a memorial gathering a later date.
