Dean Newman

April 21, 1938 — October 31, 2021

On October 31st, 2021 Dean Nuri Newman passed away peacefully at his home in Cleveland, TN with his son by his side.Dean Newman was born in Miami Beach, FL but raised primarily in Winchester, VA. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Alama Carpenter Nuri and father, Ismail Nuri and wife Anne Surface Newman. He is survived by his son, Justin Newman and his siblings, Betty Snapp (VA), Ismail "Smile" Nuri Jr. (AL), Ismet Nuri (VA), Selma Harter (VA), Gail Hollinger (VA), and Susanna Lockley (VA). Dean Newman was known for many things, including his love of music, he played the French Horn in the United States Army Band when he was stationed in Arizona and had a deep baritone singing voice; working for the United States Postal Service for 50+ years, where he walked his downtown route for most of his career; and his love of word games and puzzles. He was a kind and generous soul, giving much, asking little in return. He will be grieved by many who knew him, and this world is a little dimmer with him gone.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on November 20th at 2pm at the Salvation Army Building at 437 Inman Street W Cleveland, TN 37311. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army Cleveland, TN in his memory. The service will be livestreamed by the Salvation Army.
