David Scoggins, Jr.

October 22, 1957 — July 2, 2024

David Lee Scoggins, Jr., lovingly known as Dave, Biscuit Butt, Dad, Papaw, and friend passed away on July 2, 2024, at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer. Born on October 22, 1957, in Chattanooga, TN, David was a cherished member of the Cleveland, TN community. David found joy in simple pleasures and had a deep passion for spending time with his family, working for the union, caring for his flowers and garden, bird watching, and hanging out with his buddies.

His heart overflowed with the love for his two daughters and all five of his grandchildren, as they brought him eternal happiness. He showed them immense love and affection from their first breath until his last. The love he poured into his children and grandchildren will be carried on for more than a lifetime.

He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 175, where he made numerous notable contributions throughout his 40 years to the profession that he had such a great passion for. Friendships that he made throughout the brotherhood were things he intensely cherished due to the outstanding men brought into his life.

Mostly known for his strong-willed nature, David was also selfless. He showed love and provided to all those around him. He valued the importance of family and friendships, and his warm and sometimes inviting presence will be deeply missed.

David is survived by his daughters, Kristie Meadows and Danielle Wilson, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Maxx Meadows, Lyric Ellis, Sarah Hannah, and Kailyn (Sam) Wyrick. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda (Larry) Gilreath, brother Tommy Scoggins, and niece Julie (Brandon) Turner.

David was preceded in death by his father David Lee Scoggins, his brother Jimmy Scoggins, and his nephew Justin Gilreath. In honoring his memory, David's favorite end quote "Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease," serves as a reminder of his infectious spirit and love for life. His favorite pieces of advice were to "put a big rock on your head so you never have to grow up", "enjoy the life you're given", "work hard, love hard, and don't get old, because "getting old sucks". David Lee Scoggins, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and most of all, unforgettable memories. He will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones as they carry on his free spirit, selflessness, and the love he spread.

The family requests that donations be made in David's name to the charity of St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Memorial Service will be held at Companion Funeral and Cremations Services in Cleveland, TN on Wednesday, July 10th, from 5pm to 7pm.
