David Edward Smiley

David Edward Smiley, 75, a resident of Vonore, TN passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in a Harriman healthcare facility. He was born July 15, 1944 in Loudon, TN a son of the late Bryant & Margaret Cruze Smiley. David was a graduate of Madisonville High School, Tennessee Military Institute, and Middle Tennessee State University. David excelled in football, basketball, track and field as well as his academics. He was employed as a chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Reynolds Aluminum, Boston University and Yale University before returning to his beloved mountains in Tennessee. David loved nature photography and had photos published in the National Audubon Society and the National Geographic Calendars.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother Lowell Livesay.
David leaves behind to cherish his memory three daughters Jessica Smiley-Headrick and husband Danny Headrick of Madisonville, TN, Angela Smiley-Asel and her husband Blake of Plano, TX and Forest Smiley of Vonore, TN, five grandchildren Avery & Alex Asel, Justin & Emily Headrick and Rhys Smiley, one sister Sherry Smiley Wilson, brother-in-law Robert B. Wilson III, three nephews Rob Wilson, Tim Wilson and Mike Livesay, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
